Mr. Baackes works collaboratively with the Board of Governors to set the organization’s strategic vision and ensure its successful implementation. He also oversees the day-to-day operations, while guiding L.A. Care through the ever-evolving health care landscape. Additionally, he is responsible for maintaining the integrity, quality and accountability of the health services L.A. Care provides to its members.

He currently serves on the boards of America’s Health Insurance Plans, Medicaid Health Plans of America, California Association of Health Plans, Local Health Plans of California, and serves as Chair of Project Angel Food and the SNP Alliance.

Giulio Zavolta has more than 25 years of experience in the design and management of notable projects in Canada and the United States. With three degrees in architecture, Giulio has led a number of institutional projects that range from small community centers to large educational complexes, and master plans with difficult programmatic constraints. He has been involved in a number of competition and award-winning designs and brings to each project a high level of managed design and visualization. Giulio is a firm believer in the transformative power of design.  Given Totum’s, a design and construction management firm he co-founded, penchant for non profit clients, Giulio has had the fortunate opportunity to explore the design’s social responsibility and transform everyday spaces into socially & culturally accessible spaces that delight and uplift.  Giulio, through Totum, is committed to bringing the St John’s community the highest value of design and construction.

Danny Kaye has more than 25 years of construction experience and directs Totum’s construction management side. Prior to co-founding Totum, he worked as a contractor and then with a national construction/ project management firm as a construction project manager, estimator, and scheduler for commercial, institutional, nonprofit, office, and retail shell and core projects; interior/exterior infrastructure; and tenant improvements. He has worked with St. John’s since 2007 on over 10 projects from the first Compton renovation to the new Compton clinic completed last year .

April Verrett serves as President of Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 2015 – the nation’s largest long term care union representing more than 385,000 home care and nursing home workers throughout California. Prior to being President, April served as an Executive Vice President of Local 2015 and was instrumental in its creation when long term care workers throughout California united for greater strength.

April is also a Vice President of the SEIU International Executive Board and serves on SEIU’s Racial Justice Center, Organizing Committee, and the Together We Rise Oversight Committee.
